In the draw held in Zurich, Portugal was the first team to leave being in group A, with Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.
Qualifying matches take place between March 24 and November 16, 2021 with the final round taking place between November 21 and December 18, 2022.
Of the 55 selections, only 13 places will be available (10 for the winners of each group). After the qualifying phase, there are the play-offs where the teams that came in second and two teams that came in the first two places will be in the respective groups of the League of Nations. Of the 12 selections made for this phase, only three get the ticket for the final phase that takes place in Qatar.
This passage from the League of Nations is the most recent rule and relates to any level of the competition, with all the leagues eligible. These 12 teams will be placed in groups of four where each group will be played in the form of a tournament, the semi-finals and then the final.
