A player from the main squad of Varzim, of the II Portuguese football league, is admitted to the Hospital Pedro Hispano, in Matosinhos, everything indicates with complications associated with covid-19, confirmed the source of the poveiro club to Lusa.

The fin, whose name has not been released, was one of 11 members of the varzinist working group that contracted the new coranvirus, but developed more severe respiratory symptoms, which led to his hospitalization.

In a first phase, the player received assistance at the Póvoa de Varzim Hospital Center / Vila do Conde, but later he was taken to Pedro Hispano Hospital, in Matosinhos, a larger health unit, where, according to the same source, he is stable.

After the suspension of activity for seven days, due to the outbreak that hit the group, the varzinista squad returned today to work, with almost all elements already recovered from the disease, including coach Miguel Leal.

The people started preparing for the game on Monday, against Académica de Coimbra, of the third round of the Portuguese football cup, scheduled for 7:30 pm.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,328,048 deaths resulting from more than 55 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

In Portugal, 3,472 people died from 225,672 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
