The renowned track of Arimbo, in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, receives this Sunday, 6th, the 1st stage of the 2020 Downhill Cup of Portugal, in an event totally adapted to the context of a pandemic.
The most important national competition of this modality, and recognized at an international level, also marks the resumption of the county's sports calendar since the arrival of the pandemic caused by Covid-19 to the national territory.
A wide range of national athletes, to which are joined some official English and Spanish teams are present in this competition, which puts the expertise of its participants to the test and does the wonders of sports aficionados.
In this edition, athletes will compete in eight categories and in the classification of teams. The qualifying events are scheduled for 11:00 am and the final will be played from 14:00.
The scenery and conditions offered by the territory of São Paulo, close to the sea and with open doors to Serra do Caldeirão, are conducive to the practice of downhill and annually attract hundreds of athletes who have returned to pre-season stages, with a view to a better preparation for international championships, highlights the municipality, which once organized this event in collaboration with the XDream association and the Portuguese Cycling Federation.
Taking into account the current pandemic context, the organization adapted the entire structure of the event and the reception of athletes and the public to ensure “total compliance with public health and safety rules, according to the recommendations of national health authorities”.
