The Mar 2020 program supported, in November, 17 projects of aquaculture companies – eight of which in the Algarve – for the realization of new productive investments, in 2021 and 2022.
“These investments amount to a total of 20.9 million euros with public support of 9.4 million euros”, refers to a Mar 2020 program statement.
They are industrial units located in all regions of the continent, eight of which are in the Algarve, in this case mainly in the subsector of shellfish production.
The largest investment supported is 4.7 million euros from Acuinova, in Mira, a company that succeeded Pescanova, in the production of sole and turbot, and which has the largest production volume in Portugal.
The Vertical Episode stands out immediately afterwards, with an investment of 4.6 million euros in Odemira, the main objective of this project being the implementation of an industrial unit, in a closed system, for the sustainable production of microalgae of high quality, the main natural source of omega-3.
