The Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, based in Évora, will promote a set of actions to celebrate International Volunteer Day, a celebration established in 2001 by the United Nations and which is celebrated on December 5th.
Throughout this week, the foundation aims to “value the committed participation of volunteers in the transformation of social reality and the organizations that provide this practice of active citizenship”.
These celebrations began on November 26, through the reception and sharing of experiences between volunteers from the Portuguese League Against Cancer Foundation and Beja Center, and also through the promotion of a workshop called «Volunteering for the World», which will took place on 28 November, addressed to Erasmus students at the University of Évora.
On the 29th, an awareness-raising action on volunteering was carried out for preschool and elementary school children, with various playful and pedagogical activities.
However, it will be during this week that the activities will intensify, namely through the holding of a Volunteering Project Show, to be held until Friday, 6, at the Foundation's Social Innovation Center, making known the volunteer initiatives in the Alentejo city.
Today, Wednesday, 4, the foundation promotes a live radio program, bringing together volunteers from various city projects to witness their activities and thus encourage others to volunteer.
On Thursday morning, 5th, International Volunteer Day, several volunteers will be in various locations around the city to make direct contact with the community.
In the afternoon, from the Dialogue Café Room of the Social Innovation Center, a debate will be promoted on the theme "International Volunteer Day", networking volunteers and technicians from Dialogue Café Lisbon, Novi Pazar, Beach City, Warsaw. and Belgrade.
The highlight of these celebrations takes place tomorrow at 9:00 pm, with the Secretary General of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, Maria do Céu Ramos, giving public recognition to the volunteers, volunteer organizations and schools that collaborated with the foundation. in 2019.
The ceremony also includes a conference by Maria Elisa Borges, a former member of the National Council for the Promotion of Volunteering, and a concert by the Zanguirraza group. In the end, all participants will be offered a hot chocolate.
The celebrations end with an environmental volunteering action on Friday, 6, by planting trees in the Alto de São Bento, northern area of the city that suffered a fire in 2017, and the foundation has already carried out another action last year. planting trees.
