Iron and Daniel Podence were the players excluded by the picker Fernando Santos of the final list delivered to UEFA and will fail today the meeting of Portugal at SerbiaGroup B qualifying for the Euro2020 of football.
Both players are newcomers to the squad, but will no longer be able to be used in Belgrade, by decision of Fernando Santos.
The coach has called up 25 footballers, but can only make 23 on the final list, which is handed to UEFA at midnight on the day of the match.
For their part, Daniel Carriço and Renato Sanches, who are returning to the European champions' work after a long absence, are on the final list and will be able to climb the pitch at the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Belgrade.
The Portuguese national team seeks to add their first victory in Group B and re-launch in the fight for a direct qualifier for Euro2020.
Portugal are forbidden to lose, having started the grouping with two home draws, against Ukraine (0-0) and precisely Serbia (1-1).
Portugal are fourth and penultimate in Group B with just two points, although they have two games less than Ukraine, who lead with 10, and Luxembourg, who are second with four.
With one more game than Portugal, Serbia are third in the standings, also with four points, while Lithuania follows last with just one point.
The first two places in the group give direct access to the Euro2020. If they fail to qualify in the group, Portugal is at least assured of a play-off presence via the League of Nations.
The meeting is scheduled for 20:45 (19h45 Lisbon) and will have arbitration of Turkish Cüneyt Çakir.
