The European Financial Stabilization Fund (EFSF) today approved a request from Portugal to make the advance payment of two billion euros. This amount belongs to loans from this fund under the 2011 international troika rescue.
The request was made by the Portuguese Government on June 28, through the Minister of Finance, Mário Centeno, and had to be subject to the approval of the EFSF Board of Directors, according to a statement from the European institution.
Portugal thus becomes the second beneficiary country to make an advance payment of the loan, after Spain has already made nine advance payments.
