The Sausages Fair, which will take place this weekend, March 2 and 3, at the municipal heliport of Monchique, will honor, for the 26th consecutive year, the tradition, customs and customs of the county.
In search of tradition and, through specially designed units for this event, the thousands of visitors that are expected will have the opportunity to enjoy the most typical flavors of the local gastronomy.
The presence of several sausage production units and traditional kitchens give the event the genuine flavor and knowledge.
Apart from gastronomy, handicrafts also have a strong presence, and there are also stands dedicated to sweets, strawberry, bread and other products, thus generating an event that adds other economic activities.
The children's audience will have a privileged area in this 26th edition, with the "Espaço Bolota", which will provide workshops about the pig, exploring the relationship of this animal with nature, its eating habits, the characteristics of its habitat, its organization social and human imaginary related to it.
The visitor can also attend and participate in the «Kitchen Laboratory – Sharing of Knowledge and Flavors», invigorated by the Algarve Tertulia, with the main focus of creation and confection of Monchique sausages.
Still on the gastronomic slopes, the visitor can watch the show "Cataplay", a play full of spells and contradictions carried out by Mário Spencer and Tânia Silva, which ends with the tasting of a cataplana recipe made by the Tertulia Algarve team.
As for musical animation, this year's edition features a poster with Carminho on Saturday, 2 at 10:00 p.m., Sara Tavares, on Sunday, 3, at 7:00 p.m.-
During the competition, the Lima Duque Prize will be awarded to a sausage producer. The goal is to "perpetuate the memory of Luis Fernando Maia de Lima Duque, a veterinarian and a person who has always been linked to this fair."
The event will also count on the presence of the UCC's Mobile Health Unit Mons Cicus, with the purpose of providing screening services to the population, as well as the presence of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve, to provide clarification on issues related to agriculture and livestock. All interested parties should contact the Municipality to inform about the interest in this issue to mark the time during the fair.
Organized by the municipality of Monchique, the contest runs from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm on Saturday, and from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Sunday, with free admission.
