Faro Airport was distinguished by ACI Europe – International Airport Organization in the areas of «Best Airport» and «Best Hygiene Measures».
“Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada Airports were distinguished by ACI Europe. These awards, which also highlight three other airports in the VINCI Airports network, recognize the Airports of Portugal for their continued commitment to the experience and safety of passengers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic ”, says ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, in a statement.
The award of the “Best Airport” award (“Best Airport”) included the dimension in the European region of airports.
The distinction for Lisbon occurs in the category of 25 to 40 million passengers. Porto and Faro win at 5 and 15 million passengers and Ponta Delgada at airports with less than 2 million passengers.
Given the requirements of the current pandemic situation, ACI introduced a new award, the "Hygiene Award", in order to recognize the capacity of airports to ensure hygienic and safe environments and the maintenance of the necessary measures to meet the needs and expectations of passengers.
In this new category, the airports of Porto, Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada stood out among the best in Europe.
All ANA / VINCI Airports airports “have implemented protection measures since the beginning of the pandemic crisis”, in December 2019, in close collaboration with health authorities, “adding measures and optimizing processes whenever necessary”, highlights the company.
