The opening of the competition for the Faro Official Animal Collection Center, to be built within the municipality, an investment of over one million euros, was approved today, Monday, 6, in a chamber meeting, unanimously.
The equipment will be built in a secluded area in relation to housing estates, in the Medronhal area, in Guilhim, and intends to “fill a gap that has been felt in Faro for dozens of years, housing abandoned animals from the county,” says the Faroese municipality. in a statement.
The project, with a value of € 1,236,892.29 and a 455 day lead time, provides for a maximum capacity between 163 and 173 animals, including a nucleus for adoption animals, a quarantined animal nucleus, 16 cells cat collections and a kennel area with 42 collective boxes.
The structure will also have outdoor circulation areas and two animal parks, as well as administrative and treatment areas and veterinary medicine.
In line with the guiding principle of the municipality of respect and preservation of animal welfare and dignity, the municipality of Faro has been conducting awareness campaigns against abandonment, abuse and animal care.
According to the mayor, Rogério Bacalhau, this is also the philosophy that will govern the management of the new infrastructure.
“In Faro we already respected these humane animal treatment precepts well before the adoption of the specific legislation in force, which we have achieved through the adoption of several measures such as the non-acceptance of circus shows in public space with captive animals, the conducting capture, sterilization and return projects with excellent results, as well as co-organizing and supporting various awareness initiatives, in conjunction with the associations of the so-called animal movement, ”said the mayor.
