The Municipal Museum of Faro opens today, Thursday, 10, at 17:30, the exhibition «Território Solar», with works from the contemporary photography collection of Novo Banco and curated by Maria Eduarda Duarte.
«Território Solar» results from yet another collaboration between the municipality and Novo Banco and promotes “a reading about space beyond its physical and geographical limits”.
“A place is much more than the soil and the architecture that makes it up, a place is not simply described by the visible elements that draw it, but by everything that is time and memory, roots and cultures, people, stories and lives ”, Says the curator of the project.
Inspired by the work of António Ramos Rosa, a Faroese poet recognized throughout the world, with several prizes – among them the Pessoa Prize -, a set of works from the Novo Banco Contemporary Photography Collection was selected that “reflects this connection to the place, a space that can be owned, but also of constant search ”.
The show features photographs by Ignasi Aballí, Patrícia Almeira, Uta Barth, Tacita Dean, Willie Doherty, Faivovich & Goldberg, João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva, Leslie Hewitt, Aino Kannisto, Daniel Malhão, Susan Meiselas, Gabriel Orozco, Samuel Rama, José Manuel Rodrigues, Pauliana Valente Pimentel, Jeff Wall and Michael Wesely.
The opening ceremony will include the participation of the Mayor of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, the President of Novo Banco, António Ramalho, and the Director of the Municipal Museum of Faro, Marco Lopes.
After the interventions there will be a guided visit by the exhibition's curator, Maria Duarte, interspersed with moments of poetry by Afonso Dias.
