Faro receives the flag of «Sport-Friendly Municipality»


The Municipality of Faro was, for the fourth consecutive year, distinguished with the banner of «Municipality of Sport», a public recognition of good practices in the area of ​​physical and sports activity.

The award, given by the Cidade Social platform, was handed over to the municipality of Faro on 22 February, in a symbolic ceremony that took place in the noble hall of the town hall, with all the safety and distance measures required by the health authorities.

“The distinction comes, once again, to recognize the work that the municipality has done in favor of the promotion of sports practice, with the implementation of a policy of good practices in sports development, based essentially on the support of sports associations, in the establishment of partnerships, in the offer of sports activities aimed at all age groups and in the requalification of sports equipment ”, stresses the executive.

Currently, the network of «Municipalities Friends of Sport», 136 Portuguese municipalities (mainland and islands), ten of them, in addition to Faro, located in the Algarve: Albufeira, Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão, Silves , Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António.

Title assignment is done under ten areas of analysis

For the title «Municipality of Sports Friend», ten areas of analysis are taken into account: sports organization, facilities, events, programs, ecological sustainability strategies, solidary sports, partnerships, sports reality, legislation, marketing and innovation. It also focuses on aspects of sport management, such as the management model implemented and its results, the development of a sustainable attitude and the solidarity and inclusive approach through sport, as well as the excellence and scope of the intervention models.

The program «Municipality of Friends of Sports» has the institutional support of the State Secretariat for Youth and Sports, in addition to several partner entities: APOGESD – Portuguese Association for Sport Management, DGS – General Directorate of Health, ANG – National Association of Gerontologists, APDD – Portuguese Association of Sports Law, UPDTEF – Portuguese Union of Technical and Technical Directors of Physical Exercise and the Portuguese Basketball Federation.
