The May Festival, according to the organization in a statement released today, is composed of "two nights of concerts that aim to promote artistic proposals that have as a central element of his speech the intervention: from politics to social criticism, environmental activism to the fight against race and gender discrimination, through issues related to the defense of cultural identities and the right to self-determination. "
The program of the initiative, organized by the Municipality of Seixal, with the artistic direction of the musician Luis Varatojo, "is based on two fundamental axes: the preservation of memory, bringing to the stage the historical legacy of intervention music and protest; and the current struggles, giving voice to new artists and new musical genres. "
On the first day, on May 10, acts Fausto Bordalo Dias, "one of the most iconic artists of intervention music made in Portugal before and after April 25". For this day is also planned the show Capicua & Women of Lusophony, in which rapper Capicua invites singer Sara Tavares and rapper Eva Rapdiva. The first day ends with the performance of Kusturica and The No Smoking Orchestra, which will present "classics of the soundtracks of his films, always well accompanied by one of the biggest bands of Balkan music".
