João Filipe Monteiro begins to be the chronic winner of Two Wheels Motors
Fernando Peres, navigated by José Pedro Silva, at the helm of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX did not give their opponents a chance and won the Alcoutim Rally, third round of the South Rally Championship held today in the northeast Algarve, organized by the Algarve Automobile Club ( CAA), with the support of the Municipality of Alcoutim.
Winning all the specials of classification the Porto duo finished the Algarve race with a 1m20.6s advantage over the Algarve team Márcio Marreiros / Rui Serra (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX), both pairs being accompanied by Ricardo Filipe / Fernando Almeida (Mitsubishi Carisma GT) that spent more 38.4s than the champions in title, which reveals an improvement of progress.
In the fourth position Pedro Leone / Bruno Ramos (Ford Escort RS Cosworth) finished the race, almost 2 minutes behind the previous team, leaving the two-wheeled winner João Filipe Monteiro / Gonçalo Assunção ( Toyota Corolla) that closed the top-five and begins to be the category's chronic winner, meddling in the space of the 4×4.
With 19 teams on the way, the hardness of the north-eastern Algarve floors led to many mechanics failing, with Júlio Inácio / Ricardo Mestre (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX) finishing in 6th place with 51.4s more than the team winning the two Rodas Motrizes, with a lead of almost 2 minutes over the team ranked in 7th place, Nuno Silva / Dario Martins (Fiat Punto HGT), who beat the opposition team in the category, Paulo Anselmo / Eduardo Gonçalves (Peugeot 206 Gti (XS ) by the margin of 1m21.7s.
Rui Rijo / João Borrega (BMW 325 IX E30) finished in 9th place, in front of the pair Pedro Franco / Vítor Sousa (Ford Escort) who closed the top ten, with the team Jaime Falcão / André Silva (Mazda 323) of last ranked.
The next round of the South Rally Championship is the Rally de Monchique, which will be held on 8 and 9 June organized by the Automobile Club of the South (CAS).
