Filled weekend for the Southern Classical Orchestra

A candlelit concert, chamber music and a tribute to composer Ludwig van Beethoven mark the Southern Classical Orchestra (OCS) extended weekend agenda.

The new edition of the "Classic Lethes" cycle begins on Thursday, 16, and features a program dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, the year in which the composer's 250th anniversary is celebrated.

The following day, Friday, 17th, will be held another concert of the cycle «Notes to Conversation in the Church of S. Vicente», in Évora, with classical music and candle-tasting wine.

This season, the "Classic Lethes" and "Notes to Conversation in the Church of St. Vincent" cycles, taking place in Faro and Évora, respectively, address the theme of "Tradition" and "Modernity", regarding the 250 years of the Beethoven's birth.

“Considered one of the greatest geniuses in music history, Beethoven revolutionized not only his time but an entire generation of composers who followed him,” stresses OCS.

The concert "Beethoven & Beyond", dedicated to the German composer, will take place in Faro, at the Lethes Theater, on Thursday, 16, at 19:00 hours.

In Évora, this program will be presented the following day, Friday, 17th, at the Church of São Vicente.

The Notes for Conversation in the Church of S. Vicente have the particularity of taking place in an intimate, candlelit setting, and feature a Cartuxa wine tasting moment, courtesy of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation.

This show will be performed by Luis Miguel Garcia (flute), David Fresquet and Russell Tyler (oboes), Rui Travasso and Pedro Nuno (clarinets), Joaquim Moita and Emily McIntyre (bassoons), Todd Sheldrick and Ederson Gonçalves (horn) and Marco Silva (trumpet).

Still in the chamber music segment, «The Great Quartets of Mozart» will pass by the Mother Church of Pêra on Thursday, 16, at 19:00, and Saturday, 18, by the Church of São Sebastião, in Lagos, also at 19:00.

On stage will be a group of musicians from the Southern Classical Orchestra, namely Stefania Bernardi (flute), Laurentiu Simões and Sabina Kolodziej (violins), Ivetta Natzkaya (viola) and performing the works «Quartet with Flute n . 3 'and' Quartet No 19 'Dissonances'' of the Austrian Master.
