The show, which is part of the 34th Algarve International Music Festival (FIMA) and performed by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul and the soprano Dora Rodrigues under the direction of conductor Rui Pinheiro, will be preceded by a photography exhibition and a lecture on the Olhão poet João Lúcio.

The poem "O Meu Algarve", written in 1905 by João Lúcio, is the starting point for a night dedicated to the Algarve region.

At the invitation of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, the Portuguese composer Luis Soldado created a cycle of five songs that "personify, in a way, the simplicity and ingenuity of my Algarve but also that of João Lúcio", sustains the musician.

"Far from my current aesthetic, I have not resisted revisiting some of the earliest melodies I wrote, still as a teenager, and from them, composing most of these five songs that are a mixture of joy and longing," he added.

This work, for voice and orchestra, will be performed by the renowned soprano Dora Rodrigues, who will be accompanied by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul under the direction of conductor Rui Pinheiro.

The remaining program will be completed with Portuguese-inspired works, highlighting the brilliant «Fun # 1» by Joly Braga Santos, one of the greatest modern Portuguese composers and whose music is imbued with a strong nationalistic character – a kind of "folklore imaginary".

Starting at 8:00 p.m., a collection of old photographs from the Algarve will be exhibited at the Conservatory Gallery, and at 8:15 pm a lecture will begin with the writer Vasco Prudêncio, author of "The Creator of Ghosts" an unpublished study on João Lucio.

The visit to the exhibition and participation in the lecture are free admission.

Tickets for the "O Meu Algarve – nationally inspired music" concert, starting at 9:00 PM, have a unit price of 12 euros and can be purchased at the venue on the day of the show from 8:00 p.m. through the online ticket office available at this link.
