Briton Fiona Hunter-Johnston (Velo Performance) started the best defense of the revalidation of the Portugal Cup Games Santa Casa, cycling, by winning the first scoring event, held today in Albufeira.
The elite runners had to complete 87 kilometers to the urban circuit of Algarve, leading a group of three runners, among whom the race was decided.
Fiona Hunter-Johnston was the best, cutting the goal with 2: 04.49 hours, the same time of compatriot and 2nd ranked Lauren Dolan (Team Rytger), while also British Jo Tindley (Velo Performance) was 3rd, the 1 second from rivals.
The elite event was totally dominated by runners from outside. The best Portuguese was Marta Branco (Maiatos), ranked 11th, 2.24 minutes away from the winner.
The scenario was different in the other categories, in which the national cyclists were imposed.
In juniors the superiority of Daniela Campos (5Quinas / Municipality of Albufeira / CDASJ) was evident, which completed the 70 kilometers in 1: 22.20 hours, less 8.40 minutes than the 2nd classified, Rafaela Ramalho (Maiatos). The third, also at 8m40s, was Beatriz Faria (Maiatos).
The balance was the dominant note in cadets. The first five finished the 53-kilometer test at the same time. Beatriz Roxo (Maiatos) won and Laura Simão (5Quinas / Municipality of Albufeira / CDASJ) was 3rd.
In veterans were imposed the master 30 Inês Trancoso (Maiatos), the master 40 Cristina Azevedo and the master 50 Cristina Gonçalves (Bike & Nutrition Shop). The classification by teams was surpassed by the training Maiatos.
The first round of the Portuguese Women's Cup Santa Casa Games was played by 77 runners.
The women's squad returns tomorrow to the road, the day of the second race of the Cup, from 11:00 in Palmela.
Elite riders will ride 77.4 kilometers, juniors will face 62.5 while cadets and masters will ride for 46.8 kilometers.
