FMM Sines – Festival Musicas do Mundo won the “Best Cultural Program” category of the 5th edition of the Iberian Festival Awards, delivered on October 17, in an online ceremony broadcast from Lisbon.
With this award, attributed by APORFEST – Portuguese Association of Music Festivals, the jury considered the Sines festival the Iberian festival that in 2019 presented the best cultural program.
FMM Sines had already won this category in the prize editions related to festivals held in 2016 and 2017 in Portugal and Spain.
With this award, the festival has already won 11 Iberian Festival Awards in several categories, having been five times an Iberian winner and six times a national winner.
In addition to the Iberian Festival Awards, among the most important recognitions that FMM Sines has been the object of over its 21 editions, the EFFE Award 2017, an initiative of the European Festivals Association, attributed to the most influential European festivals.
FMM Sines – Festival Music of the World has been held in the municipality of Sines, Costa Alentejana, since 1999.
Organized by the City Council of Sines, it is a public cultural service festival.
FMM's programming encompasses the breadth of “world music” and transcends its borders. It opens up to folk, jazz, alternative music and urban music.
More than strictly a “world music” festival or traditional music, FMM Sines is a festival that seeks real world music as it is made and lived in our time.
The 22nd edition of FMM Sines is scheduled for 23 to 31 July 2021, in Sines and Porto Covo.
