The new book "From Rivalry to the Union – History of Football in São Brás", by César Correia, former international soccer referee, will be presented today, Friday, 4.
Due to the current pandemic context, the work will be presented on the municipality's Facebook page, starting at 18:00.
This book, edited by the São Brás municipality, reveals the history of football in São Brás de Alportel between the years 1913 and 1970, from the birth of spontaneous football to the formation of clubs and competitions and the creation of suitable sports equipment, recalling emblematic figures of the municipality linked to this modality.
This book will be available for sale from December 10th at the City Hall, at the Municipal Library and at local bookstores.
César da Luz Dias Correia was born on April 1, 1935, in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, in the municipality of Tavira.
At the age of 3, he moved with his parents to the Mesquita Alta site, in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, where he spent his entire life, especially as a soccer referee and cork industrialist.
The author started his career in 1959 and refereed more than 700 games, including two Portuguese Cup finals. He became an international in 1973 and obtained FIFA insignia in 1977.
He ended his career in 1982, when he became manager and technician of the Federation and League sectors, until 2009, completing a 60-year career in arbitration.
