Frederico Gil returns to pair triumphs at the Faro Open

Frederico Gil and Fábio Coelho signed the only Portuguese victory of this Tuesday's match at the Centro de Ténis e Padel de Faro, where until Sunday the 30th edition of the historic Faro Open will be played.

This international tournament, organized with the support of the Municipality of Faro and the Portuguese Tennis Federation, distributes $ 25,000 in monetary prizes.

A few days away from celebrating his 36th birthday, Gil was absent for many months due to a serious injury and even took advantage of that period to start his coaching career.

Meanwhile, the physical problems began to show signs of being outdated and the former No. 62 of the world "ranking" returned to compete sporadically in pairs, as well as in the national veterans' championship – which he won.

Today, Tuesday, together with partner Fábio Coelho, put an end to a series of 19 months without winning matches on the international circuit, defeating compatriot Tiago Cação and Slovenian Tomas Lipovsek Puches (third seed) by 6- 2 and 6-4.

It was the only Portuguese victory of the day this Tuesday, which started with the failures of Illia Stoliar (6-1 and 6-4 for Ronan Joncour) and Francisco Cabral (6-4 and 6-2 in favor of Alexis Musialek) in the last qualifying round and ended with two other duels of the pair variant: playing at home, José Ricardo Nunes formed a partnership with Illia Stoliar, but was unable to counter the favoritism of the French Dan Added and Hugo Voljacques (6-4 and 6- 3), while Afonso Portugal and Tiago Torres lost 6-2 and 6-3 to the French also Ronan Joncour and Arthur Reymond.

On Wednesday the five Portuguese tennis players in action will play in the main singles table: Fábio Coelho will face Sebastian Fanselow starting at 9:30 am, a meeting followed by the 100% Portuguese duel between Pedro Araújo and Luís Faria.

Then, not before 13:00, Gastão Elias fights with Tomas Lipovsek Puches and Tiago Cação with Kuzey Cekirge.

At the end of the day, the first seed, German Mischa Zverev (ex «top-25» ATP), faces «qualifier» Vincent Stouff.
