Frederico Morais leads Portuguese team in World Surfing


O surfer Frederico Morais, 31st in the world ranking, stands out in the Portuguese team for the 2019 World Championship, in Miyasaki, Japan, whose list of six athletes summoned was released today.

In addition to 'Kikas', coach David Raimundo also elected Vasco Ribeiro, Miguel Blanco, Teresa Bonvalot, Carol Henrique and Yolanda Hopkins Sequeira to represent Portugal in the competition that runs from 7 to 15 September and provides the qualification for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games. .

“This is the first World Championship in surfing history that qualifies for an Olympic Games, so its significance is immense. Portugal brings to Japan a lot of athletes that represent the best that has been done in Portuguese surfing for several years ”, noted the president of the Portuguese Surfing Federation, João Aranha.

Frederico Morais, who has participated in several races of this year's world circuit (of which he is an alternate, after being relegated in 2018), is the main reference of the Portuguese team, which, according to João Aranha, seeks to “make history, not only of surf, but national sports ”.

The Miyasaki competition is not the last chance to win through the Tokyo International Surfing Association2020 – edition in which the modality makes the Olympic debut -, since it will still be possible to get it at the 2020 world tournament.
