From Benedict Cumberbatch to Colin Firth: director Sam Mendes joins stars for war epic

DreamWorks and Universal announced that the shooting of "1917", the new film by Sam Mendes, begins on Monday, April 1, in England and Scotland.

The eighth work of the British film director, winner of the Oscars with "American Beauty" (1999) and the last two praised James Bond saga ("Skyfall" and "Specter"), will be an epic that takes place in a single day in the World War One. The plot was written by Mendes with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (from the series "Penny Dreadful").

The story will accompany two young British soldiers, played by George MacKay ("Fantastic Captain") and Dean-Charles Chapman (Tommen Baratheon in "The War of the Thrones").
