The body of Diego Maradona will be buried this afternoon in a cemetery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where the parents of the former Argentine international footballer are buried, a family spokesman told AFP.
"The funeral will be held this afternoon at Jardim da Paz, in Belavista," northeast of the Argentine capital, Sebastian Bianchi told the French news agency.
The public wake in honor of Diego Maradona, who died on Wednesday at the age of 60, began today in Buenos Aires, with thousands of people gathering at Casa Rosada, the presidential palace of Argentina, where the body of the former soccer player.
According to the Argentine authorities, the wake of the ex-player, winner of the 1986 World Cup, started at 06:00 (09:00 hours in Lisbon) and is expected to continue until 16:00 (19:00).
Maradona, considered one of the best footballers in history, died on Wednesday at the age of 60, announced agent and friend Matías Morla.
According to the Argentine press, Maradona, who trained the Argentines of Gimnasia de La Plata, suffered a cardiac arrest in his villa in Tigre, in the province of Buenos Aires.
His football career, from 1976 to 1997, was marked by Argentina winning the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, and the two Italian titles and the UEFA Cup won in the service of the Italians of Naples.
Argentine President Alberto Fernández decreed three days of national mourning for the death of Maradona.
