Galp will suspend activity at the Sines refinery as of May 4 and for about a month, due to the impossibility of draining “the products produced”, following the pandemic, a company source confirmed to Lusa.
“It will be necessary to extend the adjustment measures in the operation of the Sines refinery [distrito de Setúbal], temporarily suspending the operation of most of these facilities from May 4, 2020, for an expected period of one month, ”said a company source to Agência Lusa about a news item previously reported by the Observer.
Galp justifies the decision with the “evolution of the national and international situation resulting from the extension of the state of emergency”, decreed due to the pandemic of the disease caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which imposed “extreme containment measures, increasingly restrictive quarantines and the paralysis of most economic activities ”.
These measures created "severe operational restrictions", which led to "interruptions in the supply chain, in particular because it is not possible to sell the products produced", he added.
Galp also guarantees that this stop “will not have an impact on the people affected by the Galp refinery” and that “the supply of market needs is ensured”.
