The inauguration of the work "Voo", by the Romanian sculptor Ștefan Radu Crețu, takes place on August 8, at 7:00 pm, in the Gardens of Communities, in a partnership between the Romanian Cultural Institute, Romanian Embassy in the Portuguese Republic, Loulé City Council, Almancil Parish Council and DOINA – Immigrants Association Romanians and Moldovans at the Algarve.
The sculptural arrangement that will embellish the heart of the village of Almancil is a modern reinterpretation of the famous “Bird in space” by Constantin Brancusi, the most respected Romanian sculptor of the 20th century. The works of the artist Ștefan Radu Crețu are enigmas for the intellect. Built on physical principles that are easy to decipher, they preserve a dose of obscurity that intrigues and invites multiple interpretations.
"It is an installation that addresses the mythological theme of the firebird and that purposely alludes to Constantin Brancusi's ‘Maiastra’, for its stylization and abstraction. For being an interpretable theme and with similar versions in many cultures, the Phoenix bird is associated with the Sun, however it always appears differently, in various shapes, nuances of color and sizes, in such a way that its image always remains enigmatic. 'Flight' (geometric Cinnyris) thus becomes a three-dimensional sketch, a visual fiction in which the fire of rebirth is replaced by strobe light with a dreamlike effect when it gets dark. The shape of the bird is framed by a three-dimensional design that simulates an origami, thereby highlighting the prototype's undeveloped silhouette as an act of reforming", explains the author of this sculpture.
It should be noted that this work has already been appreciated in two successful exhibitions in Portugal, at Parque Marechal Carmona in the center of Cascais (2018) and in the garden of the Centro Cultural de Redondo (2019).
