The Coastal Control Unit of the GNR, through the Coastal Control Sub-station of Olhão, seized yesterday, Tuesday, 2, in Faro, 1,510 kilograms of undersized cockle in Faro.
During an operation to supervise fishing and the protection of marine resources, the military intercepted a car that carried cockles, in the presumed value of 4,500 euros.
In addition to not having the minimum size of 2.5 cm required for their capture and marketing, the driver was not accompanied by the registration document for live bivalve molluscs or a transport document.
The driver was identified and three news files were created for misconduct. The bivalves, because they were still alive, were returned to their natural habitat.
