The national downhill champion (DHI), Gonçalo Bandeira, entered in the best way in the new season, imposing himself yesterday, Sunday, in São Brás de Alportel, in the first scoring race for the DHI Cup of Portugal presented by Shimano.
The natural corridor of Lousã pulled from the gallons and did not give the competition a chance. Right after qualifying, he showed that he was better than his opponents, establishing the best mark of the day, 2.43.955 minutes.
In the final, Bandeira was a little slower, with 2.44.412 minutes, enough to win.
Tiago Ladeira (Miranda Factory Team) was the closest rival and improved the personal mark between the morning and evening descent, finishing in 2nd place, 687 thousandths of Gonçalo Bandeira.
Briton Brett Wheeler, who competed "at home" – represents the MCF / XDream / São Brás Municipality – closed the podium, at 2,859 seconds.
The Bandeira family also stood out in the elite female category. Margarida imitated her brother Gonçalo and supplanted the competition.
Rui Freitas was among the juniors, Bernardo Rocha (AEBTT Rio / Mr. Print) in cadets and Nui Tai (Wildpack Algarve Racing) debuted the new category of children.
Among the veterans stood out the master 30 Rui Cabrita (Wildpack Algarve Racing), the master 40 Paulo Domingues and the master 50 José Salgueiro (MCF / XDream / Municipality of S. Brás).
Wildpack Algarve Racing won by teams, with 5 points, leaving MCF / Xdream / São Brás Municipality in 2nd place (7).
The second race of the Portuguese Cup of downhill takes place in Boticas, on the 16th of May.
