Researchers at Google have developed a machine learning and deep learning tool capable of detecting cases of advanced breast cancer (Metastasis), with a superior effectiveness to the techniques used by pathologists through conventional methods. To do this, the scientists trained an algorithm, called LYNA (Lymph Node Assistant) to recognize the characteristics of tumors in different conditions.
During the tests, artificial intelligence can distinguish the difference between samples with cancer cells and those that are cleaned with a 99% efficacy. As the Venture Beat advances, the system can detect even small fragments that the tests done by the doctors could let pass.
The researchers report that the AI system can become an effective helper for physicians by reducing diagnostic failures, especially in advanced cancer situations, where the room for maneuver for failures is reduced.
When it is put into practice, the AI diagnostic system can free doctors to devote more time to treating patients.
