The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development announced the opening, by the end of the year, of two tenders to support young farmers in the sector of viticulture, with an overall value of 5 million euros.
Funded by the Rural Development Program (PDR2020), this amount aims to support the renovation and rejuvenation of agricultural enterprises, increase the attractiveness of the agricultural sector for young people and contribute to the economic dynamization and reorganization of the vineyard sector.
Strengthening the viability of farms, promoting innovation and training, and supporting the installation of new vineyard plantations are other objectives.
The first contest, called 'Young Farmers', worth 1 million euros, aims to support the first installation of young people in the wine sector.
With a value of 4 million euros, the second competition, 'Young Farmers Investment in Agricultural Exploitation', is intended to support investments in agricultural holdings, whose total value is more than 25 thousand euros.
Young farmers can apply for both competitions.
According to the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Luís Medeiros Vieira, "this type of support gives continuity to the government's policy to continue the rejuvenation of the agricultural fabric, giving young people the opportunity to settle in the wine sector, with priority for the interior of the country ".
Applications can be submitted by 31 December through the Portal of Portugal 2020 (www.pt-2020.pt) or the PDR 2020 Portal (www.pdr-2020.pt).
