The women's team of the Athletics Academy of Grupo Recreativo Eirense (GR Eirense) is in action this weekend in the final of the 1st Division of the National Club Championship on Indoor Track.
The Expocentro track in Pombal hosts the 28th edition of the National Club Championships, a competition whose design was changed due to the pandemic. Held on two different weekends (March 13th and 14th and March 27th and 28th), this event decides the collective national champion, in men and women, only at the end of the second weekend, when it will end the competition, aimed at 16 clubs.
On the first weekend, in the women's sector, the group from Eiras, which in 2020 became national champion in indoor track, in the women's sector, of the 2nd Division, will compete, in group A, directly with Sporting, Sp. Braga , Juv. Vidigalense, ACD Jardim da Serra, ADR Água de Pena, Grecas and Fatima Athletics Group.
Over the weekend of March 27 and 28, seven more formations will be in action in the women's sector. “We are in the strongest group, but we are looking to do the best we can”, assured the president of GR Eirense, Jorge Lopes, to DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS.
The pandemic "did not allow ideal training conditions" and GR Eirense "is at a disadvantage compared to other clubs", acknowledged the manager.
Although the conditions of preparation are not the best, GR Eirense is confident for the performance of its female team in Pombal. “The focus is to go out there and do the best you can. We are confident and we believe in the athletes, who are very motivated ”, stressed Jorge Lopes.
GR Eirenese's entourage has 11 athletes and five coaches.
