Grand Prix of Kings honors former winners on 50th anniversary


The 50th Kings Grand Prix, one of the most traditional track and field events in the country, will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 4, with a tribute to former winners.

The race will be held once again in the streets of Faro, starting in the Manuel Bivar garden area, with a record number of about 400 athletes, many of them national and international in importance.

Before the event, the 5th edition of the Great Water Race is held, a playful and competitive competition for non-federated athletes, open to the general population and whose number of entries has already exceeded the record, with about 600 registrations.

For this special edition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the race, Portuguese athletes and winners who took the name of the event and the city around the world were invited.

In addition to the presence of Olympic champion Rosa Mota, winner of this event on four occasions and only citizen awarded with the Key of Honor of the City of Faro, will be distinguished other great figures of the sport, such as Albertina Machado, Alberto Chaça, Ana Cabecinha, Ana Dias. , Aniceto Simões, Armando Aldegalega, Aurora Cunha, Carlos Lopes, Conceição Ferreira, Ezequiel Canary, Fernanda Ribeiro, Fernando Mamede, João Campos, Jorge Varela, Luis de Jesus, Luis Horta, Manuela Machado, Mário Silva and Vera Fernandes.

The tribute takes place at Hotel Eva, in an official dinner scheduled for Saturday night.
