The Iberian Network of Transfrontier Entities (RIET) held its general assembly yesterday, Tuesday, in Leiria, with the participation of the Secretary of State for Interior Valuation, Isabel Ferreira.
The Guadiana Eurocity was represented by its president, Natália Santos, its director, Luís Romão (also deputy mayor of VRSA), and Ayamonte city councilor, Javier López, as the only cross-border entity to represent the interests of Andalusia and the Algarve.
The RIET General Assembly is the main meeting for reflection and dialogue between the governments of Spain and Portugal, becoming a forum for the defense of the interests of the Spanish-Portuguese border, in which topics such as Demographic 'Photography' are being debated. and the Impact of the Atlantic Corridor on GDP and Territorial Cohesion.
Remember, the Guadiana Eurocity – made up of the municipalities of Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António – has just presented the EuroGuadiana 2020 project: European Laboratory for Transboundary Governance.
This will be the first permanent laboratory for cross-border governance in the Alentejo-Algarve-Andalusia Euroregion, which aims to address new territorial challenges, explore joint working methodologies and develop strategies in accordance with the new European guidelines.
This program is the result of an application co-financed by the European Union and approved by the RIET (General Assembly of the Iberian Network of Transfrontier Entities), to which the Guadiana Eurocity belongs after being recognized as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC).
The constitution of the Eurocity of the Guadiana as an EGTC, after a number of years of non-existence, gives this entity “many more responsibilities and expectations regarding the work to be done”, allowing the structure to assume itself as an “thinking” entity. and works – strategically – the sustainable development of the territory, responding to the set of difficulties and problems arising from the peripheral situation of the municipalities that integrate it ”.
