Farense, last classified in the 1st soccer league, with 19 points, confirmed today the already announced hiring of the Portuguese international goalkeeper Beto, who was playing for Leixões (II Liga).
"I am prepared for this new challenge with a thirst to win," said the 38-year-old, who returns to the 1st football league to reinforce a deficit position in the Algarve, who were left without the usual titleholder Rafael Defendi, due to injury.
The goalkeeper fractured his left ankle (tibial malleolus) and had to undergo an operation, now facing a period of recovery that will keep him off the pitch for at least three months.
As the League regulations authorize, in case of serious injury to a goalkeeper, an exceptional registration, Farense, who only had two goalkeepers available – Hugo Marques and Ricardo Velho – decided to hire Beto.
The experienced guardian, international on 15 occasions, represented, as a senior, Sporting, Casa Pia, Desportivo de Chaves, Marco, Leixões, FC Porto, Cluj (Romania), Seville (Spain) and Goztepe (Turkey).
