Henrique Gomes, left-back of Sporting da Covilhã, of the II Football League, fractured his jaw and no longer plays this season, said the club's doctor, Lusa news agency.
The left-hander was replaced on the final day in the 38th minute with Leixões (1-1). After being assessed, a fracture of the right zygomatic arch was diagnosed, as well as a fracture of the posterolateral wall of the right maxillary sinus, Mendes Conceição, the doctor of the mountainous areas, said.
While further specialty examinations are still required, and therefore no downtime is defined, the clinician estimates that surgical intervention will not be required and predicts recovery to last between four to six weeks.
The 23-year-old defender arrived at the start of the season with the mountain lions, after having trained at Gil Vicente and having represented Vilaverdense of the Portuguese Championship.
