The Municipal Gallery of São Brás de Alportel, from November 3, will present to its visitors high-quality tapestries of the internationally renowned weaver-breeder Françoise Devroede, after having exhibited at the Monastery of Alcobaça and Almancil.
This will be his third exhibition in Portugal, featuring authentic high-heeled tapestries, whose inauguration is scheduled for Saturday, November 3, at 10:30 am, remaining patent until the end of that month.
It should be noted that for more than thirty years Françoise Devroede is dedicated to the creation of high-heeled tapestries. It integrates the restricted group of weaver-creators, artists who do not only imagine but who carry out their projects in order to translate their own sensitivity in a more delicate way, guaranteeing, in this way, a greater freedom of creation. Françoise Devroede is part of this new generation of artists, who thus perpetuate this art of tradition that has made Flanders famous since the Middle Ages.
All his tapestries are unique works. Classical in terms of materials and weaving, they are decidedly contemporary in their design. The expansion of some of its details transforms the objects of daily life into an abstract one. The game of shapes, curves, colors and reflections transcends objective reality giving it mystery.
