The International Walking Week, a walking week with seven short and long guided tours and a 14-hour marathon in the Monchique mountain range, will take place between the end of December and the beginning of January 2019.
Between 27 and 29 December, participants will have at their disposal seven guided walks: Rota do Moleiro (11 km); Route of the Barbelote Cascade (12 km); Village Route and Saia Chimneys (6 km); Herbs and Medicinal and Edible Plants (4 km); Geology Route, at Picota (12.9 km); Circular route in Marmelete (8,49 km); and Olive and Medronho Trail (18.8 km).
On December 30th, the Monchique Mountain Marathon will take place, a circular route of 42.6 km between 6:00 am and 8:00 p.m., and a half-marathon with 22 km.
The beginning and end of the main route will be in Caldas de Monchique, passing through Furnace, Small Cut, Picota, Monchique, Fóia, Marmelete, Vale Figueiras, Casais and Castelo da Nave.
All participants will have the opportunity to plant a tree in the new Botanical Garden.
The cost of each walk will be 30 euros, but the full package of the week, with accommodation included, will be 790 euros. More information is available at https://monchique-mountain-marathon.org.
