This is the second year that the Festival is organized in partnership by the six municipalities of Central Algarve, Albufeira, Faro, Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira, in collaboration with ACTA – The Algarve Theater Company, an initiative that counts with EU funding through the CRESC Algarve 2020 program.
The program, which has been reinforced this year, includes a total of 18 Portuguese and foreign companies, 50 shows, workshops, dining experiences and an exhibition. In Albufeira, the Festival opens its doors on September 14, at 7:30 pm, at Lídia Jorge Municipal Library, with the show “Janet”, made entirely from kitchen utensils, in which the main character is a piece of raw bread dough. , whose adventures will be accompanied until the time to go to the oven.
On the 15th, in the same place, but now from 11am, because the show titled "Variations with String Puppets" is aimed at the little ones (M / 3), several string puppets parade and show off their musical skills, others dance and some show their circus skills. Tricks, fantasies and surprises open the door to a magical world and
delighted that they promise to delight the public.
“Garbage Monster” is the next show at the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium, September 21st at 9:30 pm. It's an environmental comedy featuring a colorful and humorous world of shadow puppets and traditional Turkish music. The central character is a creature that eats so much junk that it turns into a good-hearted monster. He tries to eat all the trash he can find to keep the seas clean, especially from plastic bottles.
On the last day of “FOMe”, September 22, the program will be extended to both spaces, with shows taking place in the morning at Lídia Jorge Municipal Library and in the afternoon at the Municipal Auditorium. In the Library there are three sessions. “Stop”, at 10:30 am, features a stage and tiny dolls, a show that can fit in a small suitcase. When the suitcase opens the puppets tell stories, express feelings and moods in a wordless spectacle. By 11:00 is the turn of "Laia and the Flight of the Imagination". Laia a puppet, built by hand in
Wood, with 22 strands and articulate eyes, represents a child fascinated by birds and painting. In the midst of his daydreams, he interacts with the audience, hugging them, sitting on his legs and painting his hands.
Cyclose, the last performance of the morning, is scheduled for 11:30. It's a poetic show that involves three string puppets, the manipulator and his puppets create a charming dream trip of imagination. The Festival ends with the show “Men In Coats”, at 4 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium, in a double act of visual comedy that combines the arts of comedy, clown and illusion. Its mix of visual tricks has won audiences, and the show has already been performed at some of the largest and most prestigious venues in the world.
This is an event where the public will be able to observe the puppet in its most diverse forms, aesthetics, techniques and materials, as well as experience with the artists their very own look of their art and puppets. All shows are free admission, subject to the capacity of the spaces.
