Earlier this week, a bug made some Instagram users' stories appear to strangers. The problem was reported in social networks by several people and a Facebook spokesman confirmed the error.
According to the company, the bug "has made the stories of a small number of people appear to people who do not follow those same accounts." Private account stories (requires approval to follow profile) could not be seen by users who did not follow these same accounts, although the indication that the user had posted stories has appeared.
Instagram says it corrected the problem within a few hours and believes that only a small percentage of accounts were impacted. However, given the size of Instagram's user base, any bug that damages a "small percentage" has the potential to affect millions of people.
