Entitled “Lakes where I reinvented the world”, the colloquium is part of the celebrations of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen's Birth Centenary and will take place at the Lagos Cultural Center on October 3 between 9:30 and 18:30.
Given the importance of Lagos and the Algarve in the author's life and work, throughout the year the Municipality has had a diverse cultural program that aims to celebrate the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Birth Centenary. Coordinated by the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Centennial Coordinating Commission and the National Culture Center, with the support of the Lagos City Council, the International Colloquium “Lagos where I reinvented the world” symbolizes one of the highlights of the program. Organized in four round tables, the colloquium will address some topics and themes present in his literary work, namely the sea, the dialogue with the southern poets, the importance of children's tales and the presence of the sacred in their poetry.
The opening session will be in charge of Hugo Pereira, Mayor of Lagos, Paulo Águas, Rector of the University of Algarve, Maria Andresen Sousa Tavares, daughter of the author and creator of the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Centenary Commission, and Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins, of the Centennial Coordinating Committee. Throughout the day, the round tables will be attended by authors, researchers, teachers and experts linked to Sophia and her work. In the morning there are two round tables dedicated to the themes “The Presence of the Sea” (António Branco, Claudio Trognoni, Maria Inês Castro e Silva, Joana Matos Frias) and “Tales for children and poetry” (Carlos Mendes de Sousa, Alva Martínez Teixeiro and João Minhoto Marques).
In the afternoon will be presented the themes “The Poets of the South” (Nuno Júdice, Fatima Freitas Morna, Fernando Cabral Martins and Gastão Cruz) and “Poetry and Sacred” (Federico Bertolazzi, Jose Pedro Serra, Maria Andresen Sousa Tavares and Pedro Mexia). Final comments will be made by Fernando Cabral Martins, from the Colloquium Organizing Committee. Also part of the Sophia Centennial Commemorations, the Photographic Exhibition “Places of Sophia” is on display until October 26 at the Lagos Cultural Center. By the end of the year, the show “Memories of a Maid” by Neusa Dias (November 6), the Recital “My Poet for the Reconstruction of the World”, by Pedro Lamares (November 7), are also planned. the Musa Prize – Choir Concert (November 9) and a concert by the Algarve Jazz Orchestra (November 30).
The Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen International Colloquium “Lagos where I reinvented the world” will take place on October 3rd (Thursday), between 09h30 and 18h30, at the Lagos Cultural Center. Admission is free and requires no registration. The program can also be consulted online.
