Former Energy Director Miguel Barreto assured in parliament today that he did not favor "any particular interest, only the Portuguese State", rejecting the "mistaken idea" that gave the central Sines to EDP.
In his initial speech to the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the excessive revenues of electricity producers, Miguel Barreto began by clarifying that in previous hearings he was assigned "acts" that call into question his good name, such as "the misconception that the director general gave the Sines power station to EDP, on top of it, for free. "
"It was not the general director who decided to give the license without term to EDP, it was derived from the law. It is also false that the Director General of Energy has given the [de Sines] to EDP. Finally, if you did not give it, you could not charge it, and it is unfortunate to say that EDP was offered what was already yours since at least 1996, "he said.
Miguel Barreto emphasized that "the three questions that have been raised about the Sines power station are unfounded", emphasizing that, as general director (2004-2008), "it only complied with the law".
"I did not favor any particular interest, only the Portuguese state," he said.
