The Portimonense coach acknowledged, in the antechamber of the derby with Farense, that "it is good" for Algarve football to have two teams from the region in the I League, promising a competent team to return to the victories.
“Being a derby doesn't change anything. It is a game that happens to be with our neighbor. There is a healthy rivalry, it is just an opponent. It is good for Algarve football that there are two teams in the League, but I don't see the rivalry in an exacerbated way ”, said Paulo Sérgio, in a press conference, about the match scheduled for Monday in Portimão (21:15).
Portimonense, 18th and bottom, with eight points, and Farense (17th, with nine) have not faced each other in the main echelon of Portuguese football since the 1988/1989 season, when there were two goalless draws.
“It hasn't happened for some time, this is important. This time we are opponents and each one will try to do for his life. We, more than ever, want to win the three points ”, said the coach of the Portimão team.
Paulo Sérgio asked his players to focus on their “individual and collective tasks, trying to be competent” to achieve the result they are looking for, a good example being the performance against Benfica, despite the 2-1 defeat on the previous day.
“What the team has demonstrated has increased its own responsibility. You can't go backwards, you have to go forward, and if we are able to do it against one of the best teams in Portugal, we have to be able to do it against the other teams ”, he stressed.
For the coach of Portimonense, Farense is “a good team” and, giving reason to what had already been stated by Sérgio Vieira, the counterpart of the emblem of Faro, “he has done more points than he has in the classification”.
“It is clear that we are the one with the fewest points. But there is a group of seven or eight teams in which a victory takes us to the middle of the table. We cannot live the emotional part of the classification, we must enter focused on the game ”, concluded Paulo Sérgio.
