The exhibition, patented in the Fidelidade Arte space in Chiado, is curated by Delfim Sardo and brings together pieces created in 1995, a sound work "Song NC Sharp", of 2016, which spent a long period of time without being shown, and an unpublished sculpture.
The sound work records the sound of glass breaking, while the sculpture was specially designed for this project, and includes semiprecious stones collected by Durham over the years.
The artist returns to the exhibition "Concise History of Portugal", which he presented at the Galeria Módulo in 1995, the artist's first presence in the country, and which "would become relevant in his career", according to curatorship.
Jimmie Durham, born in the United States in 1940, crosses poetry, political activism, and artistic practice.
As a young man in the 1960s, he devoted himself to political activism, poetry and performance, and traveled to Geneva at the end of that decade to study sculpture and performance at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts.
This year he received the Golden Lion of the Venice Art Biennial for his work.
This exhibition is the second moment of the "Chain Reaction" project, the result of a collaboration between Culturgest and Fidelidade Arte, which proposes to participating artists to invite the artist who follows them in both spaces of the two entities.
Jimmie Durham was the artist proposed by the luso-african artist Ângela Ferreira and will be, in turn, succeeded by the Italian artist Elisa Strinna.
