The Algarve athlete Joana Schenker finished the year as number 4 of the world bodyboard circuit, after being 3rd in Portugal Nazaré Pro, failing revalidation of the title.
In the final stretch of the APB Tour, the bodyboarding of the Sagres Bodyboarding Association was one of four candidates for the world title, but it was imperative to win the last stage in Nazaré to renew the title of world champion.
Schenker, who suffered a shoulder injury on the first day of the race, was in high gear throughout the championship with high marks but was eliminated in the semi-finals by Alexandra Rinder, who eventually won the race.
At the end of the day, the Japanese world champion Ayaka Susuki became world champion for the first time, while the Algarve athlete finished the year in 4th place in the ranking.
"It was another great year in my career and I am very pleased with my performance. I'm going to relax a bit now, and then start training and preparing for 2019, "said Joana Schenker.
The goal is to recover the number 1 place in the world next year. "I want and I will fight to bring to Portugal and to the municipality of Vila do Bispo, another world bodyboard title," he assured.
