The João de Deus House-Museum, October 25-27, marks its 21st anniversary with three days of special activities, the equipment of the Town Hall of Silves (CMS), located in the village of SB Messines, will be a " Open | Open-House ".
"Twenty-one years is a long time and this equipment has been one of the cornerstones of the cultural life of SB Messines, so the autarchy intends to maintain a lively and culturally important program. We continue to wish that the spirit of closeness that the poet and educator João de Deus had the people of his time and who remains alive in his work, is one of the most remarkable features of this House-Museum. We do not want this to be a square and cold space, but a museum where the public takes part in the actions, is involved and is decisive for everything that happens in it and it was precisely this motivation that led us to think of this schedule to mark such an important date, "says Rosa Palma, President of CMS.
The program specially prepared for this occasion is aimed not only at the Messinian public, but at all those who wish to know better this space created and designed to make known the figure of the poet and pedagogue João de Deus, born in this locality.
Various cultural activities will serve to open to the public the house where John of God lived and its spaces to the community, through proposals that include shows of art and local culture. A way to offer a new look on the place, its history and the culture of the village of SB Messines and the county of Silves.
This commemorative program will begin on October 25th, the day that João de Deus House – Museum will open its doors at night for the special visit to Casa Museu – Museu da Noite | Museum-House at night. In this action, all the participants will have the possibility to visit the space through a guided tour in Portuguese and English, being surprised with several musical notes of accordion and Portuguese guitar by musicians Luis Gama and Ricardo Martins.
On the 25th and 26th, the program will also have a creative workshop entitled "A paper house" and a sensorial visit called "The House of the Senses", which will be a this, particularly aimed at children and young people) in peddy paper format.
On October 27th, at 2:30 p.m., the workshop "The graphic diary of a small artist" will be held, directed by Elsa Dias, for young people who like or want to learn to draw. This workshop requires prior registration.
At the end of the afternoon of the 27th, at 5:30 p.m., a collective exhibition of artistic expressions entitled "ART 21" will be inaugurated, which will present in the polyvalent space of this equipment a fusion of artistic works from the local ancestral craft, literature, illustration, drawing and media art., artistic expression of the century. XXI. Patented to the public until November 30, the show brings together about two dozen works by local artists, including names that have passed through this space throughout its 21 years of existence and still a generation of new names, a bridge between the history of this cultural equipment and its projection in the future. It will be possible to see the projects: Media Art 'Audiovisual sculpture, by Rodrigo Gomes and' Ruas', by João Miguel Pereira and Pedro Oliveira Tavares.
Throughout October, the Casa de Museu João de Deus will also offer two thematic visits to the collections in reserve: "A curious collection of lighters" by Arnaldo Xavier Martins and "Images from other times", which allows to know the photographic collection from Augusto Pires Martins
