It is, at least, the autarchy's conviction. THE Municipal Stadium José Bento Pessoa, at Figueira da Foz, you should have the synthetic turf and showers ready for sports by the end of 2020.
The contract for placing the synthetic turf in the old Bento Pessoa started on August 2, 2019 and had a completion period of 90 days. But, a turnaround in the process meant that they had been stopped for more than a year and only now have resumed.
"It was planned to return in September, so it was on schedule", explained to DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS, the councilor for Sport at the Figueira da Foz Chamber, Mafalda Azenha. “The preparations started around the 15th, but this week the machines started working”, he explains.
The explanation of the dragging of the process is simple: “What happened is that two projects have to be combined. In the middle of the process, we realized that there was budgetary clearance to also place the base of the athletics track around the lawn and we understood that it would be better to do both works simultaneously than after having to walk over the lawn to do this work. ”.
The competition for the track had not been launched at the same time as the one for the pitch “because the municipality thought there was no basis for it, but the truth is that the value of the contest was below expectations and so it was thought to proceed to the track base ”.
