THE table of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Football Federation communicated yesterday loss of mandate of delegate of the former president of Académica / OAF, José Eduardo Simões, in that organism.
After having been convicted in 2013 of committing a crime of passive corruption, José Eduardo Simões was accepted as a candidate for a delegate for a term of office from 2016-2020, since it was understood at the time that the offense had not been committed in the sports field.
However, Opinion No. 32/2017, dated 01/19/2018, of the Attorney General's Office (PGR), understood in paragraph 2 (a) that "the offense by which that mr. Delegate was convicted, it was committed "in context" and "in the sporting arena", so "criminal conviction … should be considered as belonging to the sporting sphere, even if it is common passive corruption and not against sporting truth", consequently, Mr. Delegate, in case of ineligibility ".
