Portimonense, from the I Liga, presented today their last reinforcement for the attack, José Gomes, loaned by Benfica, who chose the Algarve to grow as a player.
“I talked to people and thought it would be a good place to grow as a player. I'm still a new player and I'm going to grow a lot here, ”explained the 20-year-old forward, the European Under-19 Champion last year during his presentation before the Portimonense-Belenenses SAD match.
The Benfica-trained player made his debut in the 'incarnados' first team in the 2016/2017 season, but in subsequent seasons he only represented team B and the under-23s.
For the next two seasons, the striker was never called back to the main squad, having played for team B and under-23 of the 'incarnated'.
“Life is like that. I had my chance, but could not enjoy it. I hope to take this opportunity in a league where I think I have the quality to be, ”said the young forward.
At Portimonense, José Gomes promises to work hard to help the team achieve their goals. “I am here to help Portimonense and my colleagues, working every day to achieve these goals,” he said.
Portimonense SAD President Rodiney Sampaio thanked Benfica President Luís Filipe Vieira for the transfer of “a player from Benfica's squad”, wishing the promising striker success.
