This Tuesday, October 8, at 21h00, Café Calcinha will host the presentation session of the book "The Alley of Freedom", by Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio.
Fifty years ago, in a quiet northern village, a strange murder was committed. The penalty applied to the defendant, for its mildness, no longer hovered doubt as to the true reasons that determined it. Fifty years later, the same judge, Guilherme Augusto Marreiro Lessa, now widowed and retired, will respond accused of another crime. In the days before the trial, Guilherme Augusto receives at his house Floriano Antunes, who had purposely moved to interview him.
A native of Nazaré, Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio is today Jubilee Judge Counselor of the Supreme Court of Justice and elected member of the International Academy of Portuguese Culture. Career magistrate, he was also director of the Center for Judicial Studies, Minister of Justice, Deputy, Professor of Criminal Law at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, Minister of the Republic for the Autonomous Region of the Azores. He is the author of several books, including the novels “The Caller” and “The Man Who Wrote Tiles”.
