The contract for the acquisition of architectural and museographic services for the Gamboa Space was signed on January 28, 2021. The proposal is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The Mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação, signed on the last Thursday of January this year, the contract with the winning company of the public tender opened in May 2020, with the objective of finding a solution that combines the architecture and the contents to exhibit in the future Gamboa Space.
«This is a fundamental moment for the realization of the Gamboa Space, which corresponds to a long-standing desire of the Lagoense community for many years», confirmed Luís Encarnação, regarding this contract. This purchase of services of «architecture and museography of Espaço Gamboa», made by public tender, had a cost of € 98,800. The execution projects are expected to be completed in mid-August, and the museographic project, with all the expository and interactive contents and the graphic image, in the month of December.
Meanwhile, works to collect, analyze and select works and information are in progress. «Espaço Gamboa, to be installed at the Centro Cultural Convento de São José, in Lagoa, intends to assert itself as cultural equipment dedicated to the life and work of the painter Manuel Gamboa», stresses the chamber. The museological discourse should have interactive and integrating solutions,
allowing to contemplate originals and replicas of the artist's works, as well as objects and other testimonies of his memory and legacy.
With this initiative, the Câmara de Lagoa wishes, on the one hand, to "honor the lakeman Manuel do Rosário Gamboa das Neves as a national reference in plastic arts in the second half of the 20th century", and on the other hand, "to systematize and publicize the work is the man".
Versatile artist, Master Gamboa was a self-taught person and a figure endowed with a profound humanistic character that became famous from the middle of the 20th century. His creations can be seen in different parts of the world integrating important collections.
