The Municipal Assembly of Lagoa will hold a special session on "Reform of the State: Decentralization versus Regionalization" tomorrow, Wednesday, 17, at 9:00 p.m., in the auditorium of the Convento de São José.
The session was attended by two invited speakers: Adriano Pimpão, President of the Municipal Assembly of Loulé and the Intermunicipal Assembly of the Algarve (AMAL) and member of the Independent Commission for Decentralization, and João Pinto Guerreiro, specialist in Regional Economics, Economy of Innovation and Regional and Local Development, in addition to the intervention of the mayor of Lagoa, Francisco Martins.
"Speakers are eminent academics, both former rectors of the University of the Algarve, independent personalities of recognized merit, who have held positions of a political nature, at regional and national level, who will make a qualified contribution to a debate that is intended to be lively, enlightening and profitable on a thematic of the most up-to-date and pertinent, "the local authority said in a statement.
The discussion will address the reform of the Public Administration through decentralization, "reform long claimed by citizens in general and by the local authorities, in particular," two decades after the regionalization was culled in a referendum.
"The general question is whether decentralization is an end in itself, hindering the implementation of regionalization or, rather, whether decentralization is a means to achieve regionalization," said Câmara de Lagoa.
The thematic session of the Lagoa Municipal Assembly will seek to contribute to the debate, involving the participation of its members, invited entities and the public.
